Serenity Has Teeth!!!

Friday, December 19th, 2008
Well, it really happened!  Everyone had been telling me Serenity was going to get teeth early.  As my sister put it, she has an “angry bite.”  She’s been chomping on everything in reach. When Gavin and Jennie were here, I noticed the drool went into overdrive, and sure enough, she now has two teeth!!!  The front left one poked through about four days before the second one.  She was a pretty good sport about it, mild complaining for about a day, and a little clingy.  But now that they’re through she’s happy again!  The biggest help was giving her a chilled washcloth and the refrigerated teething toys my sister gave us.

Serenity has outgrown the infant tub!  Well, technically she still fits in it, but she discovered splashing.  Water went EVERYWHERE!  After getting drenched a couple of times we decided to move to the big tub.  She loves it!  She spent her first several baths splashing and giggling!  I got a little bath seat for her which unfortunately makes it a little harder to splash, but easier for me to wash her =)  She loves the hippo Uncle Robert gave her, it’s her favorite (ok, only) bath toy.

We had our first Christmas party of the season.  We invited a bunch of people over for Christmassy food and so we could give away the presents we had made them.  We like to make Christmas presents =)  They aren’t much, but it’s so much fun to make stuff for our friends!  I discovered when I think of Christmas food it’s all baking, so we ended up having Christmas breakfast… and pumpkin pie.  Everyone stayed the entire day!  It was SO much fun.  Serenity didn’t want to nap and miss any of the fun so she was a little broken by the end, but it was wonderful fun.  Auntie Marilyn got her her first pair of shoes… and she likes them… for chewing on =)  We discovered the Patricia had bought the exact same Christmas onesie for Henry, so we changed Serenity into her onesie!  They are so cute!  =)

I made a Christmas card with my lovely new photoshop program.  Thanks Mom!  Sending Christmas cards is something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time… maybe next year I’ll actually print them and send paper ones!  For now, I e-mailed out the jpg file, and if it didn’t get to you, here it is!!!

Serenity is Five Months Old!

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008
Serenity is five months old!  She’s really sitting now!  Just in the last two weeks it seems most of her wobbles have gone away!  She’ll still occasionally tip, but she can sit very tall and for looong periods of time!  We’re so impressed, and she loves to be able to play with her toys this way! Interestingly, she doesn’t seem to care for tummy time much anymore.  It’s frustrating her, I think, because she wishes she could crawl or move independently like she can in her jumper. Serenity has started holding onto me!  It’s so sweet, I pick her up and hold her on one side, and she grabs my arm or my shirt and just clings to me.  Sometimes she nuzzles her face in my shoulder or chest.  It’s nice and snuggly.

She’s very interested in the cards now when we play games.  Eric pulled out a deck of cards for her to chew on while we’re playing =) Image

She gets very giggly when you kiss her neck or tummy.  It’s the sweetest sound!
We let her swing in the baby swings for the first time at the park!  She LOVES it!  She gets the biggest smiles and will just be happy in them as long as you push her. Image

Serenity can roll from her back to her tummy!!!  She did it yesterday when Eric wasn’t looking =)  She was on her back, he threw away the diaper, and looked back and she was on her tummy!  Her arm was stuck so she rolled back right away.  But today I got to see her really do it!  She tried several times and then succeeded!  And she got all the way up on her arms!  Of course, then she screamed for me to roll her back =)  But she did it!
Last night she kept smiling in her sleep.  It was adorable!  And I love watching her eyes droop when she’s getting sleepy.  It’s like they slowly drift shut in stages.  It’s funny and cute =)
I took her five months pictures today, and I got to take them sitting up!  She’s so steady now!  Such a difference from just one month ago when she could barely sit for a second without tipping, and she couldn’t really look up or hold herself high.

Her favorite song at the moment is “Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes.”  She especially loves it when you get to her mouth and nose =)  Second favorite would be “If You’re Happy and You Know It”  Eric sings it to her in the bathroom, and she does stomp her feet =)  And smiles really big!!! =)
Gavin and Jennie taught her to spit =)  Just as her drool kicked into high gear!  Silly Gavin and Jennie =)  It was so much fun having them visit.  They both like playing with the baby.  Serenity definitely enjoyed the Gavin and Jennie show.  Gavin taught us all the Tigger song =)

Serenity is mesmerized by the prisms!

Bubbles!  It’s hard to get the baby and the bubbles in the same picture.

She LOVES the Jumperoo.  Sometimes after we take her out she’ll stare at it longingly until we put her back in.

Sitting!  And Reading!  Mama’s so proud =)

She can eat her feet now!  Another new development.  Eric finds it hilarious.  And often mimics her =)

She can roll from her back to her tummy!  Ok, so she’s only done it twice, but I’ve seen her so I know she can =)  ImageImage
