Serenity is so much fun. I think I’ll do a little overview of some of her current habits and then just do captions for the photos.

“Take my stuff to Mama’s bed” Serenity has become very attached to her bedtime “stuff.” This includes her flower pillow, her covers, Quack, Teddy Bear, and up to five pacis. She usually sleeps in her own bed until about 6 or 7am, and then when she wakes up she wants to take her stuff to my bed. So I gather her up, along with a big armful of stuff, and we go snuggle in Mama’s bed for another hour or so. I love it, and it’s so cute that she wants everyone to get to go. =) We actually do the same thing after naptime but usually the snuggles then are shorter.

Playing Computer. Serenity spends a little time every day on one computer or another. She loves to play SuperWhy, Peekuboo, Starfall, and the Land of Me on Mama’s computer. Usually she sits in my lap and tells me the answers while I do the clicking. If anyone knows a good toddler game to teach mouse skills let me know =) She breezes through the Super Why games and has for a while, she can even do the reading ones with Super Why himself that require her to read whole words. On Starfall she likes the little games that just involve clicking, but she will read the little books they have too, either with me having her read random words and fill in the blanks, or if she’s in the mood she can do whole sentences. She recognized the word daughter yesterday, which surprised me as it’s not an easy word or one we use often. She is also sounding out longer words, like cupcake. She plays her “little computer” (the ipad) a lot too. She doesn’t need any help with that anymore.

Books. We still go to the library every week and Serenity still loves reading! I find book recommendations and reserve them at the library, so we’ve been reading a lot of different books. She really loves Little Pea, we may have to get her a copy of that one. We get Biscuit books nearly every time we go, although I think she’s memorized them all now so they’re not that good reading practice anymore. =) She also loves the Llama Llama series, we went through a bunch of Eric Carle books, and she loved Kitten’s First Full Moon! I have a whole list if anyone wants them of our library book favorites =)
Snuggles. Serenity is still very cuddly, which makes me very happy. One of the sweetest things she does is when she’s sitting in your lap she’ll grab your hands and wrap them around her. I love it =) She did that with Raegan when we were taking pumpkin patch pics. I also love the way she rests her hands on mine when I’m reading a book with her. She has learned to make a kissing noise so she actually puckers for kisses now. Kind of a fishy kiss usually =) Whenever Daddy goes to work he asks Serenity if he can have a kiss or a hug, and she always replies, “a kiss AND a hug!.” She also gives very enthusiastic “Daddy’s home!” kisses.
Dad got her a little kitchen set as an early Christmas present, so we are having a blast with that. She loves to pile dishes in the sink just like Mama 😉 Hopefully this will get me started on all the play food I’ve been meaning to make for the last six months.

We went to the Science Museum with a big group! Abbey's family, Jessie's crew, Gavin and Jennie! Here Serenity's building with Jennie... we had to have several discussions about not knocking over other people's towers =)

One day we read "If You Give a Pig a Party" and so Serenity dressed up in her polka dot dress, we got out streamers and noisemakers and party hats, and built a fortress out of blankets. =) Great party!

Aquarium!!

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Well, I’m several days behind on my monthly update now, but instead of getting it posted tonight I’m just going to do a quick post for our recent aquarium visit! (I blame my computer, it’s out of virtual memory, so I can’t take much more computer time tonight. =)

We became members of the Aquarium this month, figuring that we would probably enjoy that more over the winter months than our Zoo membership. Serenity loved the “fish zoo.” We stared at the first fish tank we came to for a long time. The things she enjoyed best were probably the turtle tank, because they had a window where you could watch the turtles swim right at her eye level, and the touch tank where she got to touch a crab. She talks about crabs a lot for some reason, I suppose several of her alphabet books list “C is for crab.” But probably her favorite thing was testing out all the benches and nooks to figure out which one was the comfiest. She is well prepared to become a hobo.

Benches Advantage: Plenty of room to spread out

Otter Display Advantage: Not as comfy but also good for climbing, and the otters are funny

Bench #2: A wall to lean up against should I choose to use the bench for actual sitting

And finally: This spot has a super cool fish to keep me company.

Halloween 2010

We had such a blast for Halloween this year! I bought Serenity a book, Dora’s Costume Party, so we could start discussing costume possibilities early. She decided she wanted to be a “ballet girl” just like Isa, the iguana from Dora. She has a dancing puzzle that Juan and Veronica got her that she’s put together maybe fifty times now so she is definitely fascinated by all those dancing girls =)

The costume was easy as she had several cute tutus already. She seems to lean towards the more purple/pink one right now, so I got pink pants and a shirt from Old Navy and dressed them up a little with some flowers and ribbons, and made a headband for her hair. And a basket to match since really that was too easy. =)

She is really excited to get going!!

We went to a little Halloween carnival Thursday with her cousins Casey, Barrett and Aunt Jen. It was so much fun! Serenity did not really understand the concept of putting candy in the bucket to save for later, but we discussed it at least. Her favorite treat was the “pink sugar” (cotton candy). She could have eaten the entire bag easily. I hid it in the car after a reasonable amount =) The carnival was a great deal, as it cost just five dollars and they had a jump house you could go in as often as you wanted. There were tons of games you got candy at too, but Serenity was mostly interested in jumping. Casey won a purple ring that he gave her, which she has worn at least part of every day since. =)

On Halloween Serenity went trick-or-treating with her Daddy. She did a great job! She held Daddy’s hand, put the candy in the bucket, and said thank you! After each house, he’d ask her if she wanted to do another house or go back to Mama, and she chose to keep going for quite a few houses! At one point (maybe when it started getting a lot darker) she decided she’d gotten a little too far away from Mama and they headed back to the house. We let her choose one candy from her bucket to eat that night, and she picked skittles. When she opened it she said, “Mama loves red skittles!” and popped the first piece in my mouth. So sweet! And I can’t believe she remembered that as it had been months since we’d had any skittles. =)
