He can really swing on these now by himself! He uses the bucket to reach them =)

Swing the vine.  Holding my arm/elbow.  Whenever I work at the computer too long, Donovan is certain to come over and start playing with my arm.  Like right now.  I’m getting better at typing one-handed.  He likes to hold my arm and swing on it, saying “I swing the vine!”  He also just likes to fiddle with my elbow, when we’re snuggling, sleeping, or just randomly.

“I do it myself =)”  He has reached this stage.  He can put on his own socks, and he can do his boots by himself.  He can buckle the top buckle on his seat belt.  This means we have to add an extra ten minutes to our exit time, but he’s so proud!  And except for the one day when he totally flipped out every time I tried to help, even on things he can’t really do himself, it’s very cool!

Pretending he’s a puppy.  This is one of his favorite games.  He’ll bring me a ball and start panting like a puppy, and basically we play fetch.  Too cute!!!

We had breakfast with Jen one day at Queenie’s, and then she suggested we take a trip through Pottery Barn Kids.  We found a knight costume that I just couldn’t resist.  I’d been contemplating sewing one for Donovan, but this one was perfect.  Serenity has so many princess costumes from the Disney Store I decided we needed to have the knight in our dress-up collection. =)

Donovan LOVES music class! He has a few preferences. He likes to have two bumpy sticks instead of a smooth and a bumpy. He always sticks jingle bells on his feet right away. And during the lullaby, he sets up a bed with covers. He cannot be talked out of any of this =) I don't really try that hard though, it's too cute =)

Cousin Campout!

Sunday, September 29th, 2013

We got to have a cousin sleepover this month!  Little Casey was off on a Boy Scout campout, which means Barrett was in the mood for some company.  So when Jen asked if he could come play while they had a date night, we decided to see if Carson and Raegan wanted to join the fun.  Mike and Kelly were ok with having a date night too, so we got to have a party!  Eric borrowed a tent from our friend Ben at his work, and we were all set!

The kids had so much fun together.  And they played well together, even though there’s a bit of an age gap between my kids and the older cousins.  Barrett is basically Donovan’s big brother.  He watches out for him all the time, asks him to play, and always wants to hold him and help out with him.  Serenity was thrilled to get to play with her cousins, and I think it’s good when she’s not always the one in charge of deciding what the game will be.  Their favorite game this visit was playing pencil knights.  They used the huge pencils I made with pool noodles for Serenity’s Super Why Book Club, and would march around the house saying “Hup two three four, hup two three four!”  Carson was the king, and Serenity was occasionally the princess.  Raegan and Barrett were the pencil knights, but Serenity managed to get a turn as a pencil knight a couple times.  Donovan just used his regular sword, and he loves marching around as a knight.

Sleeping in the tent went way better than I expected.  We dragged out the cushions from our couch, a big foam mattress topper, and our crib mattress, so everyone had padding (at least at the beginning of the night.)  Barrett told lots of stories, and a few others chimed in with stories as well.  Eric asked fun questions, like what’s your favorite present of all time, or what is your favorite sport.  Six of us and we all chose different sports. =)  No one chose football though, whew.  The present answers were interesting.  Barrett’s favorite present is every lego kit he’s ever gotten or ever will get.  Raegan liked her trampoline.  Serenity likes her Kiwi Crates.

It was starting to get really late, so Eric suggested playing the quiet game.  I was flabbergasted when that actually worked.  Serenity won the first round of the quiet game, which was astonishing, and sometime during the second game, most everyone fell asleep!  Eric went first but DZ was close behind.  =)  And everyone stayed in the tent until basically morning!  I had to sneak out at 5am because the baby started kicking my bladder, but the first kids didn’t come in until 6!  Even poor Carson, who was blocking the door.  So much fun!!!  I can’t wait to do it again.  Although maybe not with the tent.  We left it up a couple more days, and when we went to clean it out there were two snakes inside!  The kids had opened it and I didn’t notice one day I guess.

Serenity was the princess of the woods. She assured me, "Don't worry Mama, I'm just pretending to be the princess of the woods, I'm really still your daughter.

Serenity has gotten so independent when it comes to crafting!  Nearly every day this week she has rooted around in the craft cabinet, pulling out her supplies and making whatever she dreams up in her imagination.  She made dozens of “I Love You Day” cards.  She’d cut hearts out of craft foam and stick them to paper with a big letter to indicate who they were for.  She cut out more hearts, decorated them with heart stickers, and gave those out too.  And then she’d talk Donovan and me into making I Love You Day cards for her.  It was so sweet!  And I love to see her making things!  She found an empty tape roll and turned it into a cat bed with tape and paper.  Donovan usually joins in with her crafting fun, scribbling on papers and bringing them to me saying, “I make a rainbow!  I make a airplane!  I make a slide!”

Carson got us all addicted to an ipad app called My Singing Monsters.  Eric, Serenity and I are all playing now, and we snuggle up in bed, feeding our monsters and breeding them.  It’s silly and fun!  It’s neat that Serenity can figure out how to make monsters based on which elements they need to have.  It’s also a good lesson in saving.  She wants to buy cold island and a mini-mine, but then keeps spending her money on decorations.  It might be time to give her an allowance, but in the meantime saving for My Singing Monsters is a good first lesson. =)

Serenity has been reading her Fancy Nancy Tea Parties book every night, and asking us to have a tea party.  So one weekend we let her make a list of everything she needed for a party, and we picked up a few things at the grocery store to make fancy party punch.  Then Sunday we all got up, cleaned and decorated with whatever she wanted to use from our party supply stash.  She went for rainbow decorations, and it turned out very fancy!  We enjoyed our tea, mini cupcakes, and marshmallows.  The biggest hit was the jelly bellies though.  I had a bag of them and pulled them out since they matched the rainbows.  Serenity loved matching the beans to the chart to figure out the flavor, which was good since Daddy accidentally ate a cinnamon one before she started checking.  We all dressed up to be fancy too! =)  It was such fun!  My little party planner =)  We played Follow the Hostess, Fancy Freeze Tag, and Packing for Paris.

Serenity and I went to our first movie at the movie theater in a year!  It was a blast!  We saw Monster’s University, and she sat through the entire thing.  She said she loves being my movie date, so I hope we get to go again soon!  Yay, finally get to go see all the fun kids movies!  My favorite =)  We shared a kids meal which is actually just about the right amount of food.  =)  I might start getting them for myself!

Eric asked Serenity what I wanted for my birthday, and when she heard Build a Bear had My Little Ponies, she knew the perfect thing!  So we went to Build a Bear and she built me Rainbow Dash.  Donovan decided I needed Spike the Dragon to go with it.  We love our pony and it’s been so much fun reading My Little Pony stories, watching the cartoon, and sharing one of my favorite childhood toys with my kids!
