December 28th: Visitors!

Today Maia got to meet Abbey, Brent, Brendan, Maggie, Everett, Gavin, Jennie and Corwyn!  It was a very exciting day =)  Our kids played together really well, and I just love getting to visit with them.  Serenity and Maggie played dress-up.  Brendan played a lot of board games, including Castle Panic and X-men, and Serenity joined in some of those.  Donovan alternated between playing with Maggie and Serenity and playing nearby Everett.  Such fun!  Abbey made chicken and dumplings that were delicious, and Gavin and Jennie bought Ted’s for dinner.  We have such awesome friends!

Maia seemed to be full of little smiles today.  I love those first little smiles, they are so sweet!  She got to cuddle a lot.

December 27th: Retaking the Closet =)

I know, it’s not as exciting as the rest of December, but I have to say I’m glad to have my closet back.  The only downside of being so ready for Christmas this year, thanks to all my nesting impulses, was that I had two huge boxes filled with presents and no place to hide them except in my closet.  Plus I had tubs with my advent activities and gifts in manila envelopes labeled by days, and gallon baggies with stocking stuffers, which all adds up to me living out of a laundry basket for half of December =)  So today I got to take it back!  And Eric very kindly delivered all the toys and clothes I’d set aside for Goodwill, and I added most of my maternity clothes to the pile.  I love organizing! =)

As far as what the rest of the family accomplished today…  Eric took Serenity and Donovan to the park and they got to enjoy the outdoors!  Yay for 60 degree days in the middle of winter =) We also played Dominion with Serenity, X-men while wearing capes (which was Donovan’s choice after Dominion.  I was really impressed with how patient he was while we played the big game with sister.  He played Little Computer for awhile, did some building with the candy construction set, and basically entertained himself.) I went to Target for an hour and came back with new lights for the house next year and lots of other fun things.  An hour away from the baby was long enough though!

Maia and I snuggled and napped.  When we woke up for the morning, both kids came in to visit and took turns holding the baby.  If they had their way I’d never put her down except in one of their arms.  At one point we were all snuggled together in my chair, and I was in heaven =)  They are so sweet with the baby.

Maia’s Name =)

The story of how we decided on Maia’s name still makes me so happy.  When we first told Serenity she was going to be a big sister again, she told us that we should name the baby Pearl, if she was a girl, and if we were having a boy the baby should be Starfish.  It was so cute, and we called the baby Starfish from that point on.  Even after we found out we were expecting a girl.

I was surfing baby name websites (one of my absolute favorite activities), looking for baby names that mean Pearl.  One website I found said that in Scandinavia and Scotland, the meaning of the name Maia is Pearl!  That was amazing, because Maia has always been on the top of my baby name list since I was in middle school.  And I always spend a lot of time searching for baby names from Sweden, since Ann lived there growing up.

I also searched for baby names that mean Starfish.  As you might imagine, I didn’t find many of those, but then one website listed the meaning of the name Marie as “star of the sea.”  That was perfect, and Marie was my Grandmother’s middle name!  And then Eric was telling John about our baby name ideas, and he said his Grandma was named Marie too.  And of course, there’s Jennie Marie =)

So I think we found the perfect name for our baby.  It suits her, our sweet Maia Marie.
