Maia is doing so many sweet things!

Eric and I had a really early lunch one day in the empty BOK cafeteria. When she finished eating, Maia got up to wander a bit, which was fine since the room was empty. After she casually strolled three or four tables away, Eric called her back. She immediately bolted out of the room at top speed, giggling like mad. HA HA parents, fooled you. So tricksy! You could almost see her whistling casually as she got far enough away to make a break for it!
Eric fell asleep singing to Maia in her crib. After a nice hour long nap he woke up and started to leave… Only to hear a wide awake Maia go “shhhhh, shhhhh” to soothe him back to sleep
Mama! Dada! Her face lights up as she runs to me and I swing her up into a hug. It’s so joyous, every time! Sometimes she walks backwards to snuggle into you. Or to get into your lap for “booky”

OK! She uses the adorableness of this to get her way a lot. Paw Patrol O K! The K is especially emphatic. Ohh Kaaaaaaay?

She is learning a lot these days. She is so focused. She loves moving piles of penguins, collecting stacking cups. She is good with colors. The first of my children that I didn’t wonder about color blindness! She can say pink purple yellow blue regularly, and she’s done orange and red. I don’t know why she doesn’t like green.

Maia is asleep on the floor next to Mama Bear. I am a ninja for checking without waking her. Now I am tempted to go back for a picture.

She can totally escape the crib. But she decided maybe it was more comfortable than being right in front of the door today!

It’s getting to the point that I have to check a calendar to figure out how many months old Maia is! Pretty soon she will be 2! She really is a toddler now instead of a baby. She doubled in size almost overnight! Possibly the night she learned to climb out of her bed. That was a crazy week. =) She slept in the floor next to Mama Bear one night, then she started sleeping by the door. Then she may have figured out that it’s really more comfortable in her bed because she started staying in it again! Last night she went wandering again though. She pulled her nightlight off the wall, so I had to investigate that. I put her back in her bed and rubbed her back for awhile. Just when I thought she was asleep, I slowly lifted my hand. She quickly grabbed my hand, pulled it back into the crib, holding it with both hands underneath her so I was neatly and thoroughly trapped. If she would have just gone to sleep I might have stayed like that indefinitely, but she was too pleased with her accomplishment, and kept looking over at me and giggling, so I had to leave and let her work out sleep on her own. In related news, we are SO GLAD Eric is home to stay for awhile. =)

In Ms. Parent's room. One day he was talking to me about something, when he suddenly said, "Something just popped into my brain! Dragons are fairy tales! I have to tell My Ms. Parent!" I love that he was so excited to make connections with something they discussed at school! =)

I didn’t journal at all for August yet! Well, except for Tahoe. Time to get caught up =)

DZ’s first day of school! He said he wants to be an astronaut, which I thought was cool until Eric told me he’d explained to DZ how the earth is eventually going to blow up in the sun, and being an astronaut is his plan for escape.

Back to school for Donovan was exciting and a little nerve-wracking. I worried that he’d miss all the people that moved on to EP. But he was thrilled that he gets to go four days instead of only three, and he is very happy! He especially loves his classmate Shira. In gym class one day they were doing a silly song called Tony Chestnut. They do different moves with it, like touching your toes, knees, etc. Well at one point they say I love you and Shira and Donovan reached across the circle to each other every time. We went to Shira’s house for a play date and it was awesome. Maia played with the older girls, and everything was so much fun and relaxed. We all had a great time! Donovan tells me so much about his school days, it’s awesome. He sings his Science Time song, and the Egyptian Time Period song. So cute.

Excellent Dr. appointment for DZ. He’s healthy, he didn’t cry at the shots. Important note in case you take him to the bathroom, he told the doctor “My pee is like a laser beam!”

Donovan was so helpful during the move. He gets the title of Packing King. He asked if he could pack boxes every day and then he wanted to unpack them when they were in the new house! He chose the car room for his bedroom, and he has a big bed in it. He loves it! He is very happy to have the games and all his toys back. He gets better at gaming every day. He had been begging for skylanders almost since we first packed them, so he’s glad they are back to say the least. And he’s played several games of Disney Eye Found It, Lost Puppies, and X-men. X-men is his favorite right now.

Serenity in August

I love her pose!

I love her pose!

With the move and all the craziness I didn’t journal for Serenity in August! I’ll have to sift through facebook posts and photos to try and write this update, and it’s nearly time to write September’s update. Well, a week of August was spent in Tahoe and at least I wrote about that!

After the wonderful family trip to Tahoe, August was all about getting back to school and packing like crazy! Serenity is really excited about school still. She gets into the car every day just glowing about all the things they do. She has spelling tests this year, and when we read in a book about a really happy moment when the main character’s heart felt like it was expanding, I asked her if she knew how that felt and she told me she felt that way when she got her first spelling test. Love her! It was hilarious that the first bonus word on her first spelling test was dinosaur. It will stand her in good stead when she has a spelling bee with Eric. He will never live down the way he spelled it in her minecraft user name. She loves spelling, she loves Saxon math, and she loves discussing books with Ms. Poleman. She is doing well. They are being more particular about handwriting, of course. So she’s working at keeping letters from going below the line unless they are supposed to be there, and remembering punctuation, capitalization, etc. She sings lots of fun songs about Shurley grammar that Mrs. Hovenesian is teaching her. She loves her friends at school, although sometimes she tells me she is shy and plays by herself. She doesn’t seem sad about that really though, sometimes she just wants to be by herself, which is fine. As long as she isn’t feeling worried or left out.

We moved into our new house August 28th. Serenity said her favorite part of her room are the books. She began unpacking her books but took her time about it. She wanted to organize her books as she went along. My baby =) She told me one night that I am a wonderful Mama, and one of the best things I did was get us the new house. She loves riding her bike down the trails, and swimming in the pool (although it closed on labor day). The backyard is huge and shady, and I can see nearly all of it from the windows. The kids adore the tire swing and Eric swings them high! I love how every night she and Donovan debate which room they’ll sleep in. Sometimes in Serenity’s room, sometimes DZ’s, sometimes separate.

In our new house. She loves windowsills =) I love this picture =)
