Maia is 22 Months Old!

10/27

Maia is 22 months old!  She is snuggly and extremely determined.  She has started greeting her brother and sister with enthusiastic hugs!  When she says Serenity sometimes it sounds like “sen-ty”, and sometimes more like “sissy” so we’re not sure if she’s saying Serenity or Sister or both.  It’s adorable though.  She’ll run to her and huuuug her, and then she’ll turn around and back into her so she can be held, standing or in a lap.  And today she gave her real kisses too!  She does the same to Donovan, and sometimes his name sounds like “Donovy” which is too cute.  She also tends to pat him a lot, which is usually sweet but sometimes painful.  Eric and I chorus “awwww” when she bursts with these displays of sibling affection.  She also runs to Mama and Dada when she sees us.  Eric came home from work today and all three kids ran to him and knocked him over and piled on top.  I just melted.  And grabbed the camera 😉  And Maia’s whole face lights up when she runs to me.  I swing her up in the air and snuggle her.  And she sticks her hand down my shirt.  I have failed so far in discouraging this habit.  Hence, determined baby.

She also throws herself on the floor a lot when things aren’t going her way, and sometimes intentionally bonks her head to make Mama feel guilty for doing dastardly things like insisting on shoes or car seats.

She loves reading books, which she calls “Bookeeee!  Read read?”  Too cute!  (Milk also sounds like “Milkeeee!”

Bookeeeee! And the rocking chair =)

She is turning into quite the gymnast.  One day I got watched her get out of bed.  She basically did a supported headstand, with her head on her mattress, kicked her feet up onto the side of the crib, and slid down and out of her bed.  I went to get the camera to record this phenomenon.  Well, when I had the camera, she decided to do a front somersault out of bed.  And now I know what she does for hours in her room when she is NOT NAPPING.  Yeah, naps are rare and wondrous things these days.

She loves being outside, but the bugs love her way too much.  Poor baby has gotten mosquito bites, or possibly oak mites, all over her poor face.  And it makes her swell up really badly!  Right now she has one right on the end of her nose, and she’s scratching it a lot =(  We put her in a sleeper and spray her with bug spray every time too.  We can’t spray her skin though!  She adores being outside.  She loves the sandbox best of all.  She seems to be emptying it one shovel full at a time into the playhouse.  She also loves swinging!  She enjoys riding Beep-Beep (Donovan’s little red push car) on walks around our neighborhood and to the playground.  We all love our new neighborhood so much!

We had several fun events this month. Pierce, Eddie and Andreana came to visit.  We had an absolute blast! =)  Maia adored chasing Pierce around the house, and the giggles from both of them were adorable!

Ann came for a visit!  We are all so thrilled when she comes!  She did puzzles and read books to Maia =)  I’ll save more about the rest of her visit for Serenity and Donovan’s posts, as they had some super exciting stuff thanks to Ann!

Ann also accompanied us to the pumpkin patch!  Maia was busy as she could be.  She climbed over pumpkins, and objected strenuously to being removed from them, until she discovered that meant she got to ride a horse!  “Horsey neigh neigh!  Yeee ha!”  Too cute.  And then afterwards she asked me “Horsey? Neigh Neigh?   Yes?” And when I said no, we didn’t have more tickets to ride the horse, she rolled around in the hay for awhile in despair.

One day during school pick up Serenity told me a long story about playing kitchen on the playground.  They used some really complex recipes.  Wet sand was the chocolate, dry sand vanilla cream.  After she described it to me for a while, I said, “sounds delectable.”  In a voice of perfect disdain, she said, “Yeah… if you eat sand.”  Lol!

Serenity started a new ballet class!  She’s very excited to be in ballet again, and her friend Scarlet from school is in class with her!  The first day I asked her how it went and she said it was the greatest of great gratefulness.  =)

We had our first two meetings for Girl Scouts with me as the leader.  The first meeting was just for the five girls that were in it last year.  I wanted them to get to plan and vote on what we would do for the rest of the year, and also to make invitations to invite the other girls in their class to join.  I liked getting a chance to talk in a small group so they could really give input into what they liked doing.  Wren wants to do crafts, she made that very clear immediately.  A girl after my own heart =)  Serenity thought about it awhile and said she liked the projects where they help others.  Sophia liked the birthday frames.  They decorated the fliers I’d printed to give to the other girls, and then they each took home a box of leftover Girl Scout cookies that Scarlet’s mom still had.  They each wrote a note on it and gave their cookies to someone they thought needed a smile.  Serenity gave hers to Trip, the new boy in their class.  I love her =)  She gave another box to Lorelai.  She is so excited that the other girls in their class are joining too!  Even though she tells me she misses Harper, which I do too, I think the troop is going to be fun!

Our second meeting was our parent meeting and investiture for the new girls.  I had the girls each decorate a petal with a part of the Girl Scout Law and the promise center with the Girl Scout Promise.  Each girl colored and glued and decorated their petal, and it turned out so cute!  I loved having everyone over at our new house!  They all fit!  It was wonderful!  Although loud, I probably should have let the girls go outside to play while I was trying to lead the parent meeting.  Oh well.  The parents voted against doing fall product, yay, and that was the main thing to discuss.  I got green sheets and dues from everyone, and everyone is registered now, so all that really needed to get done got done.  Good enough.  =)  During pinning the girls each red the part of the law or promise that they decorated, and then they made the girl scout sign and recited the promise together.  Such fun!

Serenity and I read a new book together, Tuesdays at the Castle.  It was awesome!  She begged me to read it every day.  It was so exciting she didn’t want to read without me, and I felt the same way.  Sooo tempted to read ahead but I resisted.  We loved it!  And of course now I want to own every book by that author.  =)  I need bookshelves.  Guess these can go on Serenity’s though.

Some more fun things about Serenity right now:

Her favorite game on the way home from school is asking me to guess every day which person has each job in class.  I started by randomly guessing but now I make her give me a clue at least.  So she’ll say something like, “the recess managers last name ends with a W!”  So now at least I have a chance to get it =)

Loving spelling words.  Which is highly encouraged by Mama.  =)  They are having a spelling bee in her class on Tuesday.  After their “readathon” on Monday.  I love her school!  And kinda wish I could go to the readathon too…. =)

She and I are actually discussing books.  I read a couple of young adult novels, Winterling and Descendants.  I told her about Winterling offhand one day and she kept asking me questions until I’d told her the whole story!  And then she kept asking me for more details!  It was such fun!!!!  I told her a bit about descendants too and then she picked it up and started reading it for herself.  We definitely need to get the next one in the Tuesdays at the Castle series.  I found that book and the Winterling book off the Mighty Girl website.  So far loving all their recommendations.  =)

DZ loves Shira =)

DZ loves Shira =)

9/14

I walked out with Mia and it was SO CUTE!  Mama, why are you laughing?
On the way to school today, Donovan was chanting Shira’s name.  I told her Mom about it, and she told me about a conversation she had with Shira.  She was telling her that it was Friday, and she’d get to go to school and see Donovan.  Shira said, “Mom, I already saw Donovan.  In my DREAMS.”  Soooo sweet!

10/11

Donovan is so funny =)  And he has just the best laugh!  One day, I heard him talking to Pierce.  He said “I am wearing wacky pants.  You are not wearing wacky pants.  These, are my wacky pants.”  I looked back to see what on earth he was wearing.  Khaki pants!  He also loves telling knock-knock jokes, and he is at the stage where he’ll let them go on forever. =)

He still loves school.  I hear a lot from him about his classmates, especially his friend Shira.  He has been to her house for playdates twice, and she came here once.  He was watching me go through pictures, and when he saw the picture of Shira he said in a sad little voice, “I MISS Shira.”  I guess yesterday was a long time ago when you are four! He also likes to sing me the Egypt song with all the motions. =)

Donovan is turning into a serious gamer =)  He was very happy to get Skylanders back when he helped unpack.  And he is playing lots of Daddy games!  We are starting to play 7 Wonders with him and he’s really getting it!  Yay!  He especially loves winning the fight stages of that game.  He still plays lots of X-men with Daddy, and occasionally Epic Duels.

He also loves Legos.  One day he asked to rebuild his Lego Chima alligator car thing.  I looked quickly but couldn’t find the instructions, and told him it would have to wait until I had time to look better.  Well, he went through every lego tub by himself, found the instructions and the bag with the pieces, and so we got to build!  It is really fun!  He can do most of the building on his own, although the connector pieces for the advanced sets like Chima require help.
