Serenity’s Monthly Update (mid-October)
10/7/10
The Adventures of Zoola, Wormy, and Verde (pronounced berdabay.) Serenity spends hours every day lately playing with her legos. She particularly loves the little lego people, and I love seeing all the creative games she plays with them. She was building a little tower a few days ago and said “Zoola and Wormy can sit on this, I will make them really STABLE.†(She gets warned about things being not stable a lot when she’s climbing things she shouldn’t.) Then later she made a car and said “Zoola can drive and Wormy can drive and Verde can drive!†We’ve built hot air balloons (like Benny on Dora) and airplanes and barns and caves. Once we built the whole story of Going on a Bear Hunt. It’s awesome playtime. I love that she enjoys doing it by herself and with me as well. Sometimes I just watch and sometimes we build together. Oh, and in case you’re wondering about the names, Daddy named them but Serenity now definitely uses the names. The first day we got the new legos, she completely surprised me by building a car that was pictured on the box! She found the blocks that matched and assembled it all by herself! I had to call Eric at work for that one, and as suspected he was totally jazzed.
Serenity is seriously addicted to the IPAD. I’ve downloaded several little games for it now and it’s neat to see that she can play them by herself now. My favorite is the one that lets her trace letters on the screen. A month ago she could only do the straight lines but now she can do it all! We also really like Fish School. It’s great for the fine motor skills.
We went to the fair with Grandma! It was a blast, at least after we got past the gigantic fit she threw when I wouldn’t let her run around the barns. Once she cried about it for a while she gave in and either let me carry her or hold her hand. She loved the pigs best, or so she said when I asked her later. My favorite part was petting the kangaroo, I had no idea they were so soft! She also rode a horse named Harry Potter and got pink sugar (cotton candy).
She walked more than a mile at Turkey Mountain! We have hiked there several times now and she walked all the way around the pond without being carried. And we only carried her for short periods on the way back down!
We got a new book, Dora’s Costume Party, mostly so I could get Serenity talking about what she might like to be for Halloween. It has had the fun effect of making her even more interested in wearing her costumes! One of the characters, Tico, dresses up as a cowboy so we pulled out the hat from her first birthday party and she rode her horse from Grandma =) She keeps saying that she wants to be Isa for Halloween, and in the book she dresses up as a ballerina. That’s probably what we’ll be =) I love that she actually wants to wear the cute tutus at last!
Oh, and in case I didn’t mention this, she loves jumping now =) She just started getting off the ground a month or so ago. Now we jump all the time, sometimes like frogs =)

Loved all the pics. You guys are such great parents to this sweet little blessing. I especially love the one of Eric readying on old fashioned paper book (!) and her playing on the ipad. What a hoot! And that one of them kissing will break your heart and his when she is twenty and you are missing the sweet little girl she once was. Love it.
