We visited the dinos at the zoo! This t-rex was Donovan's favorite, Serenity liked the one that spits.

Eric called me to come take pictures of this... Serenity made some really good catches in the yard! Including once when the ball went on the roof, she ran under it and waited for it to come down and got it! This is a game Eric often plays by himself so he was thrilled!!!

I just like this picture. Sitting in Granny Hale's chair, dreaming out the window. Maybe seeing our butterfly garden, which was her New Year's wish.

“We live on books! Without books we wouldn’t have big imaginations about living on books!”

Some random things that Serenity says now:

“Preciousita” What she calls Maia these days. And sometimes her cat.
She said she wanted to sell some of her toys… I restrained myself from crying :Garage sale noooo” and just pointed out that she would probably get tired of sitting and waiting for customers…

She made up a song about friends that aren’t friends anymore…There are a few kids that she doesn’t play with that often at school, but she likes to tell me about the times they have that are happy. So she made up this song: Sing four times “do you remember the day.. Do you remember the daaaaaay?”  Like the day she played vampires with Jonathan.

Serenity is really good at introducing herself, and her brother, and now Maia. Donovan is learning this skill too. They do it to just everyone. If the ups man comes to the door. Door-to-door salesmen. The pizza man. Basically anyone that comes to our door gets their life history. And people they meet waiting in line. Hi! I’m Serenity! This is my little brother Donovan! Sometimes we call him DZ! And this little cute baby is Maia. She’s a girl.” It is not easy to interrupt this process. And usually it’s too cute for me to want to interrupt anyway.

A few days ago Serenity came in and said to me, in a completely calm, deadpan voice. “This is really an emergency.  I taught Donovan to climb the tree and he can’t get down.” Then she turned and walked back outside. He was indeed stuck about as far up our peach tree as you can get.

She and Donovan often play really well together. The other day they were pretending to sleep on the stairs as a baby doggie and baby kitty. Serenity told me to say “wake up to wake us up”… Yeah right, why would I do that?

Get so excited when Maia looks at them.

Act crazy waving arms dancing to cheer each other up when crying.  Or serenity pretends to whack herself.

As always, May is a crazy busy month! And since Donovan’s birthday is coming up I’m going to go ahead and finish off Serenity’s monthly post even though there are a few more eventful days left in May! I’ll just have to add them to June =)

The end of school is always busy and fun. Serenity won an award in her class for being a great reader, which was wonderful fun. And very appropriate. She was thrilled that we got signed up for the summer reading program and checked out a very big book about a girl that gets transformed into a cat, which is just perfect. I really want to know what happens, I may have to sneak it when she’s asleep.
The preschool concert was adorable, featuring the song ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. No, not the alphabet song, the song where they turn the alphabet into a word. I was surprised at how dramatic Serenity was at this concert! She was really into all the motions, she did big motions with a huge grin on her face… at times I wondered if she was making them up as she seemed to be doing some alone… It was great to watch!

Field Day was a big event at the stadium again this year. I got to help out thanks to Jen taking Donovan to play at the various stations. I mostly just watched the kids do the handle bouncers and then took pictures whenever I saw kids I knew =) Eric was in charge of the capture the flag again, which he adores.

Serenity graduated from her swim class on her last ribbon week. She’s already talking about taking swim lessons again in the fall so she can graduate again =) I think she really loves swimming!

The cat. Eric and I had discussed Serenity getting a pet this year. She’s been telling us for more than a year now that when she’s six she’ll be old enough for a pet. And then Eric talked us into going for a hike on Turkey Mountain, and a little gray cat found us. He was about seven weeks old. There was no mother cat in sight, and he just followed us all around the lake area where we were tossing in stones. Serenity just sighed and said, “Oh, I wish she could be my cat. I would call her Snowflake.” Sigh. Irresistible. So we let her carry him down the mountain, got him some food and set him up in the master bathroom. The kids got him a box and cut a hole in it, lined it with a towel to give him a comfy hideout. Oh, the cat is a boy by the way. Serenity wouldn’t believe it when the vet said he was a boy, and said, I don’t care, I just want to call her a girl. It wasn’t until I told her that we could have three girls and three boys in the house that she consented to let him be a boy. Oh, and as far as naming the grey cat Snowflake, she said that he looks just like ” a silver, glistening snowflake.” Maybe our Christmas ornaments? I do have several silver snowflake ornaments. Or maybe he reminds her of her Snow Leopard stuffed animal, who is named Snowy and is grey and white. The deal is, if Serenity feeds him and gives him fresh water every day, and gives him enough attention, we can keep the cat. If she argues about taking care of him or makes Mama nag her about it, he has to go to a family that wants to take care of him. So far, so good. Snowflake is attacking a lot of toes these days and scratching. I think it’s just kitten stuff, but I think DZ is getting scared of him. We’ll see, hopefully he’s getting socialized enough. Right now I am hating the litter box and right now he’s at the vet for ringworm. So we’ll see.
