Serenity in August
Serenity in August
With the move and all the craziness I didn’t journal for Serenity in August! I’ll have to sift through facebook posts and photos to try and write this update, and it’s nearly time to write September’s update. Well, a week of August was spent in Tahoe and at least I wrote about that!
After the wonderful family trip to Tahoe, August was all about getting back to school and packing like crazy! Serenity is really excited about school still. She gets into the car every day just glowing about all the things they do. She has spelling tests this year, and when we read in a book about a really happy moment when the main character’s heart felt like it was expanding, I asked her if she knew how that felt and she told me she felt that way when she got her first spelling test. Love her! It was hilarious that the first bonus word on her first spelling test was dinosaur. It will stand her in good stead when she has a spelling bee with Eric. He will never live down the way he spelled it in her minecraft user name. She loves spelling, she loves Saxon math, and she loves discussing books with Ms. Poleman. She is doing well. They are being more particular about handwriting, of course. So she’s working at keeping letters from going below the line unless they are supposed to be there, and remembering punctuation, capitalization, etc. She sings lots of fun songs about Shurley grammar that Mrs. Hovenesian is teaching her. She loves her friends at school, although sometimes she tells me she is shy and plays by herself. She doesn’t seem sad about that really though, sometimes she just wants to be by herself, which is fine. As long as she isn’t feeling worried or left out.
We moved into our new house August 28th. Serenity said her favorite part of her room are the books. She began unpacking her books but took her time about it. She wanted to organize her books as she went along. My baby =) She told me one night that I am a wonderful Mama, and one of the best things I did was get us the new house. She loves riding her bike down the trails, and swimming in the pool (although it closed on labor day). The backyard is huge and shady, and I can see nearly all of it from the windows. The kids adore the tire swing and Eric swings them high! I love how every night she and Donovan debate which room they’ll sleep in. Sometimes in Serenity’s room, sometimes DZ’s, sometimes separate.
