Donovan in June:

Florida and Corwyn: Right after Donovan’s birthday party, we went to Florida to visit Gavin, Jennie and Corwyn.  We had SO much fun!!!  Five days may have been a little much for a sleepover at their age, but they played so well together!  I love them so much!

We were mostly there to see the Palfreymans, but we did go to the beach twice, and the kids discovered they LOVE boogie boards in the ocean.  So much fun!  We also went to the zoo on a very wet day, which was fine with me.  Less heat =)  We got to play Spades, an awesome DC deck building game, and had so much fun!

Build and Grow: Jennie told us about the Lowe’s Build and Grow series.  This summer they are doing Avengers!  I had taken Serenity to one of these a long time ago, and she couldn’t quite do the hammering on her own, so I was waiting until they were a little older to try.  I’m so glad we went with Corwyn!  The kids both loved it.  They built an amazing Captain America figure, and begged me to take them to make the other five in the set.  We went to make Ironman last weekend, and they loved it just as much. He lights up!  So fun.  Donovan could hammer in the nails just fine, and Serenity basically built it herself with only minimal assistance.

Avengers: Black Widow.  Donovan is really into the Avengers suddenly.  Corwyn had a Five Minute Avengers storybook, and we read the whole thing during our visit.  That, combined with the Build and Grow, seems to have brought the Avengers to the foreground of superhero fun.  His favorite is Black Widow.  He likes her all black outfit.  Right now he says that’s what he wants to be for Halloween.  If he sticks with it it will be fun to make his hair red!  =)

Snow Cones: We’ve gone on several snow cone walks to Tulsa Hills.  Donovan usually gets Tigers Blood, or more recently Spiderman, which is a mix of Strawberry and Blue Hawaiian.

Summer Reading: We signed up for the summer reading program, and Donovan was seriously dedicated to getting his reading done!  He calculated how many books he needed to get at each library visit, and begged me to listen to him read until he went through all his books!  He went through ten books the first day!  It was amazing!  We got several books that he could read entirely on his own, books like Stop Pop and Crab Cab.  They had short phrases and sentences he could sound out.  He is getting quite a few sight words regularly now too.  When he reads bigger books I usually take turns with him, and let him read a few sentences or phrases and I help with more complicated words so he can still get through it fairy fluently.  It’s FUN!  I also bought him a set of BOB books from the last book fair, and he’s read every single one of those, aloud and to himself at bedtime.

Gymnastics: Donovan begged to do gymnastics this summer, because he wants to work on his Spiderman moves.  We signed him up at a new studio near the house.  It’s still under construction, but he seemed to like the class!

Camp Incredible X2: DZ was signed up for two camps this summer: Explore, Create, Innovate, with the fabulous Mrs. McBride, and Mad Scientist with McBride, Mrs. Fox, and Mrs. Carter.  He loves it!  He didn’t want to miss a minute of camp, not even for gymnastics, which he also loves.  It was a very hard choice =)

Papa built Donovan a BED!  It’s perfect!  It fits our twin XL mattresses, is lofted enough that he can play under it but I can still make the bed and reach him, and has a slide!  Eventually we are going to make a hammock for underneath.  Right now, DZ calls the underneath part the Batcave, and the top the Batmobile.  Love it!  And I love that Papa let him help build.  He even used the drill!
